Lawn Maintenance Plan 2023

Lawn Maintenance Plan 2023

For me personally, maintaining a lawn is important. Not only to ensure that it looks visually appealing, but also to keep it free from pests and weeds. Having a visually appealing lawn can create a welcoming atmosphere for family and friends.

I’ve previously tried to do a bit of regular lawn maintenance, to help prevent pests from damaging the grass and other plants in my yard. But unfortunately, my lawn hasn’t been maintained very well by the previous owners, and it has looked dreadful during my time here. Therefore, I’ve planned for 2023, to repair and care for my lawn, which I will try and cover in this post.

Regular maintenance can save you time and money on costly repairs. By taking the time to maintain your lawn, you can enjoy a beautiful and healthy outdoor space that you can be proud of. Additionally, a well-maintained lawn can provide a relaxing environment for outdoor activities and can even improve your mental well-being. Better than looking at some patchy mossy chaos

What’s lawn maintenace?

Lawn maintenance refers to the regular care and upkeep of a lawn or yard. Typically to ensure that the grass remains healthy and visually appealing. This can include activities such as mowing, watering, fertilizing, aerating, and controlling weeds and pests.

The specific tasks involved in lawn maintenance may vary depending on factors such as the type of grass, climate, and soil conditions. Regular lawn maintenance is important to keep the lawn looking neat and healthy and can also help prevent issues such as insect infestations and lawn diseases.

What can lawn maintenance do?

Lawn maintenance can do several things, including:

  1. Promoting healthy growth
Regular mowing, watering, and fertilizing can help promote healthy grass growth, resulting in a lush and vibrant lawn.
  2. Enhancing the appearance
Proper lawn maintenance can help keep the grass looking neat, uniform, and visually appealing.
  3. Preventing weed growth
Weeds can be unsightly and can compete with grass for nutrients and sunlight. Regular lawn maintenance, such as weed control, can help prevent weed growth.
  4. Controlling pests
Pests such as grubs and insects can damage grass, resulting in brown patches and thinning. Lawn maintenance can include pest control measures to prevent damage.

My Lawn Maintenance Plan for 2023

I really am no expert on the subject, but after thorough research, I have come up with a plan to maintain and care for my lawn. Here’s what I’m going to do.

April / May

  • Rake the lawn to remove snow mould using a leaf rake.
  • Use a verticutter to improve soil heath and improve the root system.
  • Reseed grass where I’ve used the verticutter.
  • Fertilize the grass using a NPK mixture.

When the temperature is above 8 degrees a night

  • Cut the grass on the highest level for the first two weeks.
  • Rake the lawn again.
  • If there’s still moss, use calcium on the grass.

June / July

  • Fertilize the lawn again.
  • Cut the grass regularly but not too short.
  • Use a NPK 14-3-15 fertilizer if there’s still a lot of weeds.
  • Water the lawn if dry.

August / September

  • Reseed grass if there’s broken patches.
  • Remove any leftover moss.
  • Use verticutter before the winter.
  • Use a 50/50 mix for sand and dirt on the reseeded area.

October

  • Mow the lawn for the last time when the temperature is around 7 degrees.
  • No shorter than 4 mm.
